Double Trouble

Local music fans will get their fill when a doubleheader of San Diego acts rolls through Soda Bar in North Park on March 30. Hills Like Elephants will be celebrating the release of their debut LP with some help from their friends and opening act, The Heavy Guilt.

What started out as a solo project for former Gun Runner front-man Sean Davenport evolved into the four-man Hills Like Elephants, whose style can best be described as a cross between keyboard-centric old school funk and 80s pop with a modern indie singing style

On July 6 of this year, a fire broke out in Hillcrest that left one restaurant, one bookstore and one apartment complex burning. Literally burning. The smoke in the distance was definitely visible. People on the sidewalk were trying to pinpoint the exact location of the rising inferno on an otherwise clear weeknight. According to the fire department, there was some sort of roofing issue and a nearby apartment building ended up engulfed rather quickly.

New York transplant and singer and guitarist Tori lived there. She lost a lot of her things. For an artist, there’s probably a lot to write about after that

After living with a friend who was bi-polar and refused to take medication, Jefferson Airplane singer Grace Slick began to draw animals to help with the sadness she felt. This led to a thriving painting career that will bring her to San Diego on Dec. 3 for her “420 Collection.” She spoke with San Diego Uptown News about the collection, the “original guys” and medical marijuana.
