HEPATITIS A EMERGENCY IS EXTENDED AGAIN
The local hepatitis A health emergency has been extended for another two weeks amid continuing signs the outbreak is slowing down.
On Monday, Nov. 27, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted to extend the health emergency, which was declared on Sept. 1. Every 14 days, the board is required to review the need for continuing the emergency.Read More
FLU SHOT WON’T MAKE YOU SICK
It’s a myth that a flu shot makes you sick, so don’t use that as an excuse to not get vaccinated against influenza.
“The viruses in the flu vaccine are dead or ‘inactivated’ and cannot be infectious or cause illness,” Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county public health officer, said in a news release. “The most common side effects from the flu shot are soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given.”Read More
GOVERNOR DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY OVER HEPATITIS A CRISIS
Gov. Jerry Brown issued an emergency proclamation on Oct. 13 that allows the state to boost its supply of vaccines to combat the hepatitis A crisis.
Most of the hepatitis A incidents have occurred in San Diego County, but cases have now also been reported in Los Angeles and Santa Cruz counties. While a majority of the cases have involved the homeless or people who use illegal drugs, others have not fit into those categories.Read More
THE FLAME BAR AND LIQUOR LICENSE PUT UP FOR LEASE
The historical bar known as The Flame, located at 3780 Park Blvd. in Hillcrest, is up for lease.
The building housing The Flame was sold to Hillcrest developer James Nicholas of Clownfish Partners in 2015. Donny Duenas sold the property for $1.9 million. Nicholas told San Diego Uptown News at the time that he would turn the single-story structure into a multi-use project by adding six apartments and a central courtyard. He also promised to restore the façade of the vintage building as well as the iconic sign.Read More
