Kensington resident Isabella Valencia is the owner of Dallmann Confections at 780 North Second St. in El Cajon. She recently opened up a second truffle boutique in the upper level of the Flower Hill Promenade in Del Mar, at 2720 Via de la Valle called Dallmann Chocolate Boutique.
In addition to selling unique truffles by the piece or the box, Dallmann Chocolate Boutique will also be holding weekly tastings and pairings with wine, cheese, chocolate, beer and more. Valencia offers European chocolates with unique presentations, shapes, colors and flavors such as apricot coconut, cayenne, jasmine tea, rosewater caramel, strawberry balsamic, salt cinnamon and pine nut praline and pistachio marzipan with milk gianduja and ginger.
“Dallmann Chocolate Boutique has been something I’ve always wanted to do and I am excited to finally
be able to offer my truffles in a retail setting,” Valencia said in a release. “I want to create more than a chocolate retail shop, but a place for people who have a passion for premium, quality chocolate and an interest in learning about it.”

Quince Street pedestrian bridge repairs to begin
A section of the Quince Street Pedestrian Bridge which crosses over Maple Canyon between Third and Fourth Avenues, connecting Banker’s Hill to Balboa Park, was crushed on March 20 by a falling eucalyptus tree.
The 106-year-old, 263-feet-long and 60-feet-tall wooden bridge was built in 1905 for $805, to allow pedestrians
easier access to the trolley lines. The deck planks were replaced in 1974 and the trestle base reinforced in 1981. Due to termite damage and dry rot, the bridge was closed and designated a historic site in 1987. Despite the $100,000 in repairs that the bridge was estimated to have needed, it was saved and reopened in August of 1990 due to efforts by Councilmember Bob Filner and reporter Ed Linderman.
The bridge will remain closed until repairs can begin on July 11, with a reopening anticipated in mid August. Councilmember Kevin Faulconer’s office and the Parks and Recreation and Public Works/Engineering departments are in charge of running the repairs and have said that it’s a major priority.
